protest in georgia
Since April 2024, Georgia has faced mass protests after the ruling Georgian Dream party revived a controversial “foreign agents” law, seen as a move toward Russian-style authoritarianism. The situation escalated further after the October 2024 elections, which were widely seen as fraudulent, followed by the government’s announcement in November to suspend Georgia’s EU membership bid. This decision sparked even larger demonstrations and deepened the political crisis, with citizens accusing the government of betraying Georgia’s pro-European aspirations and aligning with Kremlin interests. The ongoing unrest reflects a national struggle between democratic values and rising authoritarianism.
So back then I decided to create a series of Harry Potter inspired videos as a way to express resistance, using magic as a metaphor for protest. In each video I speak a single powerful sentence, then cast a spell that transforms the world around me: exploding messages into the sky, switching street banners to statements of resilience, or revealing images of brutally beaten peaceful protesters that the government tries to hide. The entire campaign is a creative act of defiance, my way of screaming loudly against a government silencing its people.
Alongside the videos I have been designing social media posts to support the protests and printing bold typographic banners for the streets.
84 მონა | 84 slaves
One of the videos, 84 Slaves, calls out the 84 deputies who voted for the Russian-style law. Through magic, I expose their betrayal and blind obedience, turning protest into a spell of resistance.
არ დათმო | Don’t give up
One of the videos features the statement არ დათმო - Don’t give up placed on Heroes Square, not by coincidence. It’s a message of defiance and perseverance, set in a place that honors those who stood and fought, now reclaimed as a symbol of today’s resistance.
სანამ შენ იმედს უყურებ ჩვენ გვკლავენ
While you watch Imedi, they are killing us
The video shows a famous big screen on a main street changing to display a brutally beaten peaceful protester by police with the title "სანამ შენ იმედს უყურებ ჩვენ გვკლავენ"
"While you watch Imedi, they are killing us".
(Imedi is currently the main propaganda TV channel.)
გაიფიცე | Strike
Another video called გაიფიცე | Strike urges people to go on strike, highlighting that strike is one of the most powerful peaceful weapons against the government.
*ლეობა | Bullshit
this video is called what is happening in your country and my answer
is - "*ლეობა" which translates bullshit or nonsense in English. It’s a strong informal/slang term used to call something ridiculous or worthless.
თავისუფლება | Freedom
This was one of the most soul-stirring moments when we marched through the central streets of Tbilisi and on one of the main streets workers greeted us from a construction site like this, and the whole march stopped. This was not just a spectacle, it was an act of defiance. a true gesture of freedom.
დაიბრუნე ხმა | Reclaim your voice
Because the elections were rigged, we were demanding our stolen votes back. The symbol of this became a black smudge, which the government literally and metaphorically earned. They claimed that the back side of the ballot didn’t show who you voted for, but the video clearly shows that it did.
გაუქმებულია. გაუქმებულია | revoked revoked
Since the courts clearly serve the government's orders and justice has disappeared from the country, I wrote Revoked Revoked on the Tbilisi City Court building.
was commonly written when people deleted their Facebook accounts, almost like a digital protest or a quiet sign-off.
საქართველოს ვუსურვებ ოქროსფერ ვარსკვლავს ევროკავშირის ლურჯ დროშაზე | I wish for Georgia a golden star on the blue flag of the European Union.
I created this as part of TBC Bank's New Year campaign. TBC is one of the largest banks in Georgia, actively involved in digital innovation and public campaigns.
